Honoring Saule: A summer solstice pagan ritual

June 25, 2023 @ 2:45 pm - 5:00 pm

https://www.facebook.com/events/629117799240752

Welcome Children of Earth to Summer 2023!
For our Summer Solstice ritual this year we will be honoring and telling stories about the Baltic Sun Goddess, Saulė, and Žaltys, the sacred grass snake!
We will also be honoring the Baltic deities Kovas (the Warrior), Žemyna (our Mother Earth), Gabija (Goddess of Fire), Dievas (Liminal God of Creation and Death).
To prepare for this rite we encourage you to wear or bring anything that reminds you of the glorious sun! Wear something yellow and/or orange, light a colored candle or bring a golden drink such as ale, mead, cider or juice! Whatever your heart desires to connect you to the sun.

Everyone is welcome! No experience in Druidry is required as we are far more than just a group of Druids. We are a community of pagans who are excited to celebrate all 8 major Pagan holidays!
Our community is diverse and we welcome all the different spiritual branches on the big Pagan and Polytheist tree.
If you want to participate actively, we have a portion of our ritual where it is appropriate to give offerings for your Sacred Dead, Nature Spirits, and/or Deities. Feel free to bring your own personal offerings to give to them during our rite. Offerings can vary, but are typically, food, drink, and/or flowers.
We also will be drinking the “Waters of Life” during the rite. These are beverages poured out of carafes (alcoholic an non alcoholic options available) into little shot glasses for everyone. If you feel more comfortable bringing your own beverage and/or cup, please do so.
Ritual location may be indoors or outdoors. This decision is weather dependent and will be announced in the event page the day of the rite.
For many of us this return to in-person environment is very exciting but please remember to ask before you hug and respect people’s wishes and personal space. ALWAYS respect the boundaries of others.
For our Summer Solstice rite we will assemble at 2:45 PM and the ritual itself starts at 3:00 PM sharp. Ritual will last about an hour and a half, followed by some socialization for those who wish to stick around. We do not have a closed circle ritual so you are allowed to arrive late; we simply ask that you join us quietly.
Location: West Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship 8470 SW Oleson Rd, Portland.
We politely request a $5 donation per person to help cover the rental space and offerings costs but this donation is not required to attend.
See you at our fire soon!

—Trimet Bus Stop—-
Bus 45 runs every hour during the weekend and stops close to our ritual location.
Please look for a sign that says “West Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship”, as it can be an easy driveway to miss!
